Men notoriously avoid going to the doctor. In fact, 40% of guys won’t make an appointment until they’re dealing with a serious medical issue. It’s no surprise, then, that men suffer from more chronic illnesses than women (at a much younger age, no less), and die at a faster rate.
I recently reported on two different methods aimed at helping men get their shit together, medically speaking: The first is Mount Sinai’s Man Cave Health, a sports-themed medical center that lures patients into getting prostate check-ups. It’s a dude paradise where men lounge on caramel-colored leather couches while watching ESPN on a 70-inch screen TV. Local sports team memorabilia pepper the wood-paneled walls. There’s even a barstool counter to make them feel like they’re actually at a sports bar.
