How Gen Z Is Influencing Wellness Culture
Less elitist hyper-consumerism, more relaxed and evidence-based solutions.
Remember CBD leggings? Crystal-infused water bottles? And “activated charcoal” everything?
We don’t see as many head-scratching products these days (notwithstanding “adaptogen cookie dough”), partly because the industry and average consumer are changing, as I explain in today’s LA Times article, The Goop-ification of Wellness Is On The Way Out. Mainstream wellness still has plenty of issues, but one positive sign of change is the de-escalation of ridiculous products, a slowing down of elitist consumerism. Less clickbait.
There are several reasons for this, but one I want to further explore is the Gen Z pushback to the hyper-productive wellness era.
